June 08, 1927 - October 31, 2024

Jewell Roberts Bunker

Jewell Roberts Bunker, 97, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024 at Summer Breeze Senior Living, surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her children, John C. Bunker, Henry D. Buckalew Jr., Stephen M. Bunker (Jackie), Gerry Bunker (Dede) and son in-law Louis Harkins along with 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Jewell was predeceased by her parents, Henry, Sr. and Rosa Lee Bravo Roberts, her first husband Henry Douglas Buckalew Sr., her second husband Arthur G. Bunker, her brother Henry T. Roberts, Jr., her sister Ida Ray Chapman, her daughter Madelaine Buckalew Harkins, her grandson Henry Douglas Buckalew, III and other beloved family members.

Born in Savannah, Georgia on June 8, 1927, Jewell grew up near Forsyth Park, enjoying her childhood in the heart of the city. Following a family move to Waycross, she attended Waycross High School. One of her teen years’ highlights was being in school productions with actor Pernell Roberts.  She graduated from Tift College and later attended Barbizon Modeling School in Atlanta. Jewell’s grace and style were well-known as she modeled for local stores and organizations such as Fines, Town N County, Women’s Garden clubs, and the Savannah Symphony. Later she enjoyed working and modeling at The Front Porch Women’s Clothing shop and Carol’s of Savannah Dress Shop.

She was a devoted mother, wife, and friend, finding joy in family reunions, traveling with her husband Art, attending Wilmington Island Methodist Church and opening her home to loved ones. Jewell’s warmth, hospitality, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed.

Jewell’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her beloved niece, Rosalee Chapman Roberts, for her devoted care during Jewell’s time in hospice. Her compassion and support brought great comfort to Jewell and the entire family.

A special thanks to the staff at Summer Breeze Senior Living for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
